Becoming a Therapist

Ever since my childhood I have been drawn towards helping and reaching out to others. Learning about the motivations and experiences of people has always brought joy and satisfaction into my life. I am very concerned and passionate about the promotion of equality, justice, and fairness among all in society, especially the most vulnerable and oppressed. These passions and interests led me to receive my higher education in clinical social work. Along with my professional interests, I enjoy many other hobbies that satisfy my desire to create and express including cooking, singing, poetry writing, and painting. I have also felt satisfaction and connection to my body while participating in physical activity throughout my life. I have grown up playing several different sports, running, and most recently I have deeply connected to the practice of yoga.

My journey to help you heal

In addition to my work at Heartswell I work as a therapist at an outpatient eating disorder treatment practice. I am engaged in on-going learning in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, as well as somatic and energy based models. I am particularly inspired by the power of yoga for overcoming depression, anxiety and addiction and am learning as much as I can to integrate this practice into my therapy to offer clients a more whole experience.

Embrace life and gain fulfillment

I believe life should be lived to the fullest by accepting and embracing life on life’s terms. My goal as a therapist is to empower clients to recognize and own their unique stories and life experiences. I encourage clients to practice vulnerability and shame resilience to help them foster a deep sense of their own worthiness and emotional intelligence. I work mindfully with clients to help them to connect to and understand the human needs and core beliefs that have shaped them. By fostering these skills, my clients develop coping skills they need to have more fulfillment and satisfaction in their relationships with others and themselves. They also increase their capacity to handle the unpredictability of life. I practice with skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I work with a variety of concerns namely: body image/eating disorders, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, grief/loss, addiction, and relationship concerns.
